About Best Friend Academy
Founder: Heather Sherwood, Certified Dog Trainer & Behavioral Consultant

Heather began her dog-centered life at the age of 8, competing and showing dogs under the guidance and teaching of some of the best dog handlers in Kent County. Over the years, Heather has won countless competitions in Obedience, as well as competing in Confirmation with her Bernese Mountain Dogs. During college at Western Michigan University, Heather furthered her studies by becoming a Certified Dog Trainer & Behavioral Consultant. Heather originally launched her training business in 2006 and in 2008 opened her current facility, Best Friend Academy, where she expanded beyond training to include boarding and daycare.

Heather’s clients have often been amazed and hailed her as a dog whisperer. Working with a wide variety of breeds with a host of different behavioral problems, Heather is able to succeed where others have failed. Many owners have thought their case hopeless but were pleasantly surprised to be given a new way to communicate with their dog. With 27 years working with dogs and over 15 years owning Best Friend Academy, Heather has many training techniques that not only will help your dog but helps you understand your role in your dog’s life. Heather’s main objective is to create joy and harmony between you and your dog. Heather often receives recommendations from other trainers, breeders, and Veterinarians for dogs that others have given up on due to their behavioral issues.

Heather is a certified Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Evaluator, as well as being certified in Canine First Aid and CPR.
